word choice

So, I'm working on my text due Wednesday and I'm hung up on word choice. I've got down "Native American tribe", and I'm wondering if there is a different or more correct way of saying that. Any thoughts? I'm not sure how problematic the word tribe is.

    It can be problematic. Alternatives: Native peoples, nations, societies, populations, indigenous groups, or say simply the plural? As in Native Americans or American Indians...

    I think I'll go with Native American nations for now.
