Question...

Are we displaying each of the objects that we are researching or researching all and only displaying some? The reason I ask is as I'm reading through the blogs this morning Vanessa's title came up a few times. It's good and concise, but my baskets aren't from California. I have 2 from Fraser River area and the third is Tlingit. So, it'll help me to know what all is going on exhibit vs. the pieces we are researching.

  1. Yes! The larger exhibit needs to key off of and to incorporate pretty much the entire Cotton Collection." My understanding of the original concept was that focusing on a single item moving from production to NAGPRA consultation would provide a natural chronology for the wall panels and smaller exhibit cases (plinths) placed along the wall. I still think much of the brainstorming of students who have gone in a slightly different direction has good value, though--and can be worked into didactic panels. More in class.

  2. I guess the map idea probably depends more on how broad of a reach the Cotton collection has. If it's just CA & AK, we could have maps of both states. But if it gets too complicated, maybe we should consider dropping the idea rather than run the risk of confusing our visitors. I don't know. Just a thought.
